Master Sergeant Martinez is a native of Temple, Texas. He entered the Army on August 29th, 1995 as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He has served in every position on an artillery gun line; Howitzer Cannoneer, Howitzer Assistant Gunner, Howitzer Gunner, Chief of Howitzer Section, Gunnery Sergeant and Smoke/Platoon Sergeant. He has served as a Senior Observer Coach/Trainer for the Fire Support Division at the Joint Readiness Training Center. Master Sergeant Martinez has also served as First Sergeant for Alpha BTRY 2-321st FAR, HHB 2-321st FAR and HHB 82nd DIVARTY. He has most recently served as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 82nd ABN Division Artillery.

Master Sergeant Martinez assignments include 3rd Battalion 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment Fort Bragg, NC, 2nd Battalion 321st Field Artillery Regiment Fort Bragg, NC, Joint Readiness Training Center Operations Group, Fort Polk, LA, and Headquarters and Headquarters Battery 82nd ABN DIV Artillery, Fort Bragg, NC. Master Sergeant Martinez has 3 deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and two deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, one deployment to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian and one deployment to Qatar in support of Operation Southern Watch.

Master Sergeant Martinez military education includes Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Master Gunner, Observer Controller Academy, Master Resilience Training, Air Movement Control Officer and Jump Master Course.

Master Sergeant Martinez awards include Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal 4th Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO medal, Valorous Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He has earned the shoulder sleeve insignia for former wartime service, Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge and is also a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
